Rappahannock River crossing

Brownline USA has taken part in 2-Shore Approaches and a 6700 foot (2040 meter) Barge to Barge Intersect for Electrical Distribution in Virginia.

Using Brownline’s Drillguide Gyro Steering Technology and Radar intersect technology, our customer successfully completed a 6700’ barge to barge intersect bore. The Intersect bore was one of three bores completed on this project.

This project is set up to replace an existing electric transmission line which was attached to the Robert O. Norris Jr. Memorial Bridge crossing the Rappahannock River near White Stone, VA. The new underwater transmission line will provide structural integrity to and better reliability of the transmission system.

The other two land to barge bores, with a length of approximate 2500 foot (762 meter) each, were completed using Drillguide Gyro Steering Technology as well.

The Drillguide Gyro Steering System was uniquely suited for this bore because both sides were going into casing and beginning at the mudline under water. The water for most of the bore averaged 30 feet (9,1 meter) to 50 feet (15,2 meter) deep. This means that accurately placing any type of grid, if even possible, would have been time and cost prohibitive.

With this project, Brownline has been able to help making the local electricity distribution system future proof!
