In the fall of 2021, Brownline's tools were used by drilling company Van den Berg to replace a network of water pipes dating back to the 1980s. The outdated pipes were used by the water softening and deferrization plant WPC Bilzen, in the Belgian province of Limburg.
Because the water in this area is very calcareous, a water softening plant is of great importance for the quality of the tap water provided to the area’s residents. De Watergroep, the largest water company in Flanders, therefore commissioned for the old pipes to be replaced, in addition to the construction of a new water processing plant. To ensure accuracy during these drillings, Van den Berg joined forces with Brownline.
Brownline’s Gyro Steering Tool was employed to guarantee the accuracy of five bores. These bores had a total length of over 7300 feet. During these bores, Pressure-While-Drilling (PWD) was used to monitor the mud pressure. This is done to minimize the risk of blow-outs. Brownline’s efforts in this project contributed to the quality of the water supply in the area surrounding Bilzen for the foreseeable future.
