Expansion of the drinking water supply in two Dutch provinces

In 2021, Brownline was able to make a significant contribution to the expansion of the drinking water supply in the Dutch provinces of Overijssel and Flevoland. On behalf of Visser & Smit Hanab, we surveyed nine bores for the construction of a brand new 14-kilometre pipeline for drinking water.

A large reservoir is situated near the village of IJsselmuiden, where drinking water is stored until needed again. In order to be able to better distribute the contents of this reservoir upon times of high demand, the decision was made to expand the existing drinking water supply network with a 14-kilometre pipeline between the villages of IJsselmuiden and Ens. About 10 kilometers of this pipeline is completely new, the other 4 kilometers is an existing pipeline that is being replaced by a new one. With this expansion of the network, the water supplier can supply drinking water in a more sustainable way when demand suddenly rises sharply due to drought or warm weather.

The nine bores were all set out in different locations, under roads, buildings, crossing two waterways, parallel to a bridge and right under a campsite. The drill lengths varied from 80 meters to 978 meters, which made this project very varied in execution. Due to the drilling locations and the presence of above and underground objects, there was a considerable amount of external interference during drilling operations. However, by surveying all bores with the Drillguide Gyro Steering Tool, these disturbances did not cause any issues at all and extremely accurate results were achieved.

Due to the good cooperation with Visser & Smit Hanab, everything was carried out efficiently and within the set time schedule, allowing this great project to proceed smoothly!
