A home game for Brownline: drilling in our "backyard"

Currently, the preparations for the expansion of the A27 highway in The Netherlands are in full steam. For this project, Brownline has surveyed three drills of 1.100 meter (3600 ft.) each in the last month and there are more to come!

Highway A27 has been in the Dutch traffic jam top 10 for a very long time. After years of debating and planning, the national road authorities will start with expanding the busiest part of the highway in 2022. This is a 47 kilometer (29 mile) stretch southwards from the city of Utrecht. In order to realize the expansion, a large number of underground cables and pipelines have to be moved. By starting this now, way ahead of the start of the actual construction phase, the pipeline owners will avoid delaying the construction schedule.

The local water company Oasen has to relocate 6 kilometers (3.7 miles) of water supply pipes with a diameter of 700mm (27.5 inch) to a new corridor. Brownline has already surveyed several drills for this corridor and we have several more coming up in the next few months before the relocation is completed.

As with many other projects, the Drillguide Gyro Steering Tool combined with the GPS Track has proved to be the best choice. Our tool’s extreme precision has ensured accurate and efficient drills all within the set time schedule.

With our Dutch office being located at throwing distance of the A27 highway and minutes driving from the drill sites, this project really is a home game. As a locally based drilling company, we are very proud of being able to contribute to improving our region’s accessibility and traffic flows.

Keep an eye on our website for the drills still to come!
