Crossing Calgary International Airport

Brownline has completed a 1094m crossing for a 12” pipeline, which is now responsible for the safe transportation of refined fuels from Edmonton and area refineries to Calgary and area terminals.

This HDD crossing was planned to cross under an existing portion of airport runway located within Calgary’s International Airport (YYC).

Due to the location of the engineered bore path, access above the planned trajectory was not possible for surface tracking of any kind. Not only was the Airport section of the crossing inaccessible but the remainder of the planned bore path was located on a private 18-hole golf course.

These factors made the Gyro Tool the best choice for this project. The monitoring of Annular Pressures while drilling was extremely important reducing the potential of any inadvertent fluid releases and property damage to the airport runway and golf course.

The GPS Tracker was used to ensure a precise punch out location was made as to not compromise the planned tie in location for pipeline operations.
